FAQ
What is WPGphoto?
WPGphoto.com (The Winnipeg Photo Community "WPC") is a FREE, Winnipeg
based community for photo enthusiasts from beginners to professionals
who want to share their passion for photography
with others.
The community was created when founder and president Dan H. kept
meeting and talking to people while out shooting. In talking to these
people
he
noticed
the potential for a Winnipeg based photo community where photographers
could chat about it, learn from each other and most of all hang
out,
have
fun and shoot together.
WPGphoto's Mandate:
" To bring together local photography enthusiasts in a comfortable
environment."
What the community does:
-Forum: The most active, daily part of the community is it's forum. The
largest and most active of it's kind in Manitoba, this site boasts hundreds
of new messages a day and has forums for everything from critiques, gear
discussion and places to post and show your photos.
-Monthly meetings: These completely informal meetings are just gatherings
to talk with other members about the hobby and profession. Everyone is
welcome to bring their work including loose prints, photo books and even
lap top slide show presentations.
Occasionally there is a short program of a photo walk or presentation.
-Workshops and seminars: Another large part of the community are it's
workshops and seminars. Everything from high end model workshops where
several professional models are brought in to shoot, to photo manipulation
and Photoshop, Lightroom and other seminars are featured.
-Group photo shoots: The WPC organizes several photo-shoots, group shoots
and photo opportunities on a monthly and annual basis. These include
shooting
starscapes
and star-trails until 4am at Grand Beach as a group of 25 or more people,
shoots at Steep Rock, MB, the WPG Zoo as well as other attractions around
Winnipeg and Manitoba.
-Buy and Sell: The WPC has the most active public photography related
buy and sell (in the forum) which allows any individual to sell or buy
items locally from people in and outside of the community.
-More: Other areas of interest are the locally based links and reviews
sections which hold reviews on local merchants and photographers. If
you need
a photographer or want to give your story about an experience with
a photographer do it here!
The tutorials area contains tips tricks and of course tutorials for all sorts
of techniques. These will give you great new ideas for shoots and help you make
better more interesting shots.
Who is it for?
This site is for you! If you want a place to discuss photography, show
off a gallery of your own work and/or hang out and shoot with fellow
enthusiasts and professionals.
Most of the WPC members are hobbyists (aprox 90%), some who have just
bought their first camera but there are also several (aprox 10%) full
time and part time
professional
photographers.
With this kind of membership, there is always someone
to learn from!
What can it do for me?
The #1 thing being a part of the WPC can do for you is help you learn
and improve in a comfortable environment with other enthusiasts.
With all
the events, workshops and information on the forum, the WPC has helped
several
hobby
photographers
become much more versed as well as others it has helped to make the transition
to full time
professionals.
There are several listings on a monthly basis for requests for photographers.
These can include everything from standard commercial photo contracts
as well as other paid photo opportunities.
But the main thing the WPC does is provide a comfortable environment
to learn and share photography in.
How do I join?

way to become a member is to join up to the forums and start participating!
